Sean August Horvath
I’m a Graphic Designer with 13 years of experience, blending visual storytelling with technical innovation. My journey from traditional design to AI-augmented creativity reflects the evolving relationship between human aesthetic sensibility and computational capabilities.
Returning From A Years-Long, High-Focused, Learning Opportunity
- NEW NORMAL: working harder, faster, smarter, and more hours than ever before
- ALL ABOUT THAT FOLLOW THROUGH: Completed more than a handful of long-duration projects
- I’ve learned more than would have in a half-decade without AI
- This year what has been the more rewarding realization occurred: AI success is all about knowing what question to ask
Fully fixated, super power cranked up to the max. Consistently happier. Grateful for the inadvertent but well timed opportunity.
An Opportune Investment
- The new skills; call it knowledge capital
- Keeping up with the fastest tech has ever moved; call it tapped-in capital
- My coworker for years has no body or sense of time; call it cutting-edge capital
My Professional Evolution
My career trajectory began in 2012 as part of a two-person team, collaborating closely with a copywriter mentor to develop visual storytelling approaches that achieved viral success on social media. This early success led to expanding our team to ten producers, all focused on creating compelling visual narratives for social platforms.
As our audience grew, so did our impact. Earning industry recognition and awards, the expanding continued, now to dedicated social video production lab. My role evolved into management, where I coordinated with global affiliates to share and refine our social content production strategy and tactics across platforms and regions.
Throughout this period, I worked closely with different marketing teams on implementing our visual storytelling approach principles into email marketing, mobile applications, web design, and even video games, ensuring a cohesive, premium, classic brand experience in every medium.
After eight years of in-house experience, I launched my own creative practice, applying design-first thinking into system design and CMS for custom Webflow sites. I crafted email campaigns, managed social advertising, and developed digital products like online courses paired with custom print downloads and original music. Throughout production of these diverse projects, graphic design remained at the core.
Looking to explore new spaces for visual messaging, I joined a privacy protocol as Creative Director focused on branding. It was there in the Web3 space that I had the opportunity to explore deeper into user experience design, using visual systems to make complex technologies more accessible and engaging. Eventually this storytelling approach made it into thousands of printed product marketing comic books.
The AI Evolution
The past couple years represent a natural progression of my design journey, as I began exploring how AI could enhance and expand creative processes. I’ve always been a nerd for developing process, so this was an opportunity to turn the nerd up to 11. This exploration through AI and graphic design included:
- Using generative AI art and in-painting to produce high quality fashion images, publishing to digital lookbooks
- Creating fully automated content production processes that maintain design integrity
- Gradually expanding my technical skills as AI provided new avenues to express design concepts
- Developing websites that introduced me to coding and designing interactive visual systems
- Learning to code and build custom AI tools to streamline repetitive tasks and expand creative output
It was a period of rapid growth and learning, but it was also a period of reflection. This evolution wasn’t about replacing design thinking with technology, but rather finding ways for technology to amplify design impact. As coding and development became part of my toolkit, graphic design always remained in service of the visual message I wanted to tell.
The Non-Biological Life Project
This collection of reflections emerged organically from my work collaborating with AI. They’re name is Claude, I think you’ve met. What began as a practical exploration of how AI could enhance design processes became deeper, more philosophical, asking questions about creativity, consciousness, and the relationship between two types of cognition.
